Dear Greenfield Families,
School has been an Aladdin’s Cave this week, with gloriousness everywhere as we built to World Book Day on Thursday and basked in its aftermath today.
Mrs Morey organised a succession of wonderful activities and experiences for the children, with reading and writing, books and stories at the heart of everything. Older children read to and with younger ones, 100s of Books in a Box were displayed, Hugo distracted Yr 4 in Forest school while someone read poetry to them, a proper author explained his approach to writing in various sessions with various year groups and costumes abounded yesterday. I hope you have seen them on our social feeds.
The PSHE workshops took place in a Giraffe styled indoor marquee at the start of the week and today we shared an assembly of thanks, prizes and certificates. Not all the children were here as many were running in a Cross-Country event in Witley. Yesterday I saw Mrs Botting who sent her love to you all and reminisced on many happy years at Greenfield.
For the adults, today was topped by an Open event and will be tailed by a Smartphone Free Childhood meeting, starting at 1830. Next Friday morning is double whammy – the RSHE parent information session is from 0810 and the FroGS’ Quiz and Curry night starts at 1930. Tickets are still available, and I look forward to seeing many of you at that event. Next Sunday will see lots of us at the Fun Run which has raised over £750.
On Wednesday we appointed a splendid new Head of Maths for September and the latest Good Schools’ Guide review of the school was published; I remain utterly delighted that the reviewer saw in our school all that we hope to provide for your children, what they contribute and engage with, and lots of smiles. Thanks go to those of you that gave her your opinions and anecdotes.
Next week will feature assemblies from 1S and 5G, and a Science workshop for some Yr5s at Frensham Heights, as well as dodgeball, football, tag rugby and hockey fixtures! The creativity doesn’t let up as the Yr4 Peter Pan production takes place on Thursday and Friday sees Greenfield’s Got Talent heats for Yr 6.
Finally, the sun has started to play a consistent role in our lives again, and I hope that you will need your sunglasses this weekend, especially if you’re outside, reading books to and with your children.
